Do you offer a discount for nonprofits? No, unfortunately. We strive to provide competitive rates that are affordable to all local businesses, for- or non-profit.
Do you accept paid "guest posts" or other sponsored content? Not for our website. All content on 51st.news is either independently sourced by our staff, or a clearly labeled advertisement. Our closest offering to a guest post is a sponsored email: a standalone message provided by you and sent to our subscribers.

Event listings
These text-only listings include the same information as the curated, unpaid listings – with enhanced formatting and longer copy.
The customer should provide:
an event title;
a URL, which will be linked from the title;
a description, 350 characters or less;
a single address or a broad-strokes description, such as "Various locations near the National Mall";
a single date and time or date range;
a single ticket price or ticket price range or "FREE."

Recommended 40 characters or less (This limit guarantees full visibility on most email apps, browsers, and devices. But it is not a guarantee for all platforms.)

Instagram Stories
Choose to post an original graphic, or re-share a Grid post from the customer’s Instagram account
For an original image: A full-size Instagram story is 1080 pixels wide x 1920 pixels tall; or we can re-use a graphic provided by the customer for other The 51st ad channels (Website, newsletter, Instagram grid) – it just won’t fill the full “Story” space.
We recommend leaving the top 150 pixels worth of space empty (other than background color/imagery) to accommodate The 51st’s account name that is superimposed by Instagram, and the "Advertisement" label we typically add next to it.
The 51st is not responsible for any portion of your ad that is covered by the Instagram application’s default format. The 51st will place the "advertisement" label elsewhere if needed to accommodate your unique design, provided alternative space is available; otherwise a portion of your design will be eclipsed.
Instagram Grid posts
In 2025, Instagram changed the dimensions of grid posts to be vertical rectangles: 1080 pixels wide x 1350 pixels tall.
Square will also be accepted by The 51st – they display fully in followers’ Instagram feeds but are partially cropped in the Grid view of The 51st’s account page.
A standard “Advertisement” label will be added to the top or bottom of your image by The 51st.
Provide up to 75 words of copy for the post’s caption, including your account @tag if desired. The 51st will add “SPONSORED:” in front of the text the customer provides.
Policies
In plain language, here are the points you probably care about:
Advertising orders must be placed no later than one business day in advance of the desired display dates.
If no inventory remains available for the requested dates, we'll notify you as soon as possible.
All advertising materials are provided by the customer; or you may commission a design from The 51st for $150/hour.
The advertiser is fully responsible for all advertising materials. The 51st is not responsible for reviewing for any errors, misspellings, or inaccurate descriptions.
The advertiser may choose to provide one URL for any ad(s) to link to.
